Spofforth Castle & Follifoot

Distance: 8.09km
Ascent:102m

A castle that dates back to the times of William the Conqueror and on to the War of the Roses followed by a nice and easy walk over fields and along lanes. Returning along the river, this is a lovely walk for legs of all sizes...

Our verdict:

I have ridden my bike past Spofforth castle many times but never actually stopped for a look around. The Little Chaps love a good castle and an opportunity to poke around the remains, getting into every corner and I'm glad we visited! We saved the castle until the end of the walk which, for us, now, was only a short stroll. For smaller legs (and this would have been a great route to take a few years ago), it will be a good day out - never too hard and not much climb - with lots of variety in the scenery as you pass golf courses, farms, old railways and a river bank section. A really nice family day out.
