Take the A65 to Cowan Bridge and follow the signs towards Leck. Don't go into the village of Leck but continue up the valley, uphill on a small country road. A steep section passes a farm and you will eventually reach a cattle grid. There is "overflow" parking here (as long as you don't block access) but you can continue to some car parks just short of the farm which saves about 1km of walking.
