Addlebrough

Distance: 10.95km
Ascent: 253m

A great child friendly hill day! Good paths, great views and a car park that cuts out lots of the climbing from the valley bottom. This loop enjoys views of Wensleydale and also up towards Semer Water and is a brilliant hill day for little legs.

Route:

The path leads straight out of the car park in Thornton Rust. Cross the small stream and head uphill through the gate. Follow the walled lane as it twists and turns up the hill. As the track opens out, turn to the left uphill to a gate..

At the gate, the terrain becomes more open and the track continues over the fell to another gate.

Go through the gate and keep to the right to another gate in the wall. This path heads straight towards the hill of Addlebrough. A short but steep climb takes you onto the summit plateau. A ladder style takes you over the wall to a summit cairn.

From the summit cairn head more or less straight down the hill (South), picking your best way as the path can be intermittent. Head over to the wall on your right (West) and you will come to a gate. Go through this and re-join the bridleway. Follow the Bridleway to the road.

The road is pretty quiet and it is a easy walk North until a grassy Bridleway leads off to the right. Follow the Bridleway over the moorland and then down through fields until you reach the road at Cubeck.

It is now a long, easy and quiet road section back to Thornton Rust and the car park. The stream running through the car park is a great play spot.
